The serpentine area of Lake Roland Park is a globally rare plant community. This effort is focused on the removal of harmful native and non-native/invasive plants that threaten the serpentine.

Volunteer tasks include:

Saturday, February 25th:
• Clearing Virginia Pine trees – carrying downed trees to a central area to be chipped.
• Raking greenbrier onto tarps to be taken to a central area.

Sunday, February 26th:
• Cutting invasive miscanthus (Chinese Silvergrass).
• Hauling cut miscanthus to a central location.

Time-shifts: 9am-12pm & 12pm to 4pm. Lunch will be served and refreshments provided!

Parking and Location Details:
Saturday, February 25th: Parking at the Baltimore County Home & Hospital Parking lot (6229 Falls
Road). Take Copperhill Road to the end of Copperhead Road, enter park on the left side, walk down
gravel path, turn left on gravel path to main part of the serpentine.

Sunday, February 26th: Parking at Baltimore County Home & Hospital Parking lot or behind Kellogg
Collection Furniture Store (6241 Falls Road). Access the park from the rear of the Sunnyfields
parking lot – look for the Nature Council truck and wagon.

Proper attire, tools needed: Dress in layers according to temperature. Wear protection for ticks and
chiggers. Bring: hand clippers, loppers, heavy gloves, tarps. Some of these tools will be provided from the
nature council but numbers are limited.

Requirement for all Volunteers: Volunteer Waiver Form – Baltimore County and the Lake Roland Nature
Council. Volunteers under 18 must have these forms signed by a consenting parent or legal guardian to
participate in the volunteer activity. Please call 410-887-4156 to obtain a form.
